A game can be paused, either for planned maintenance or because something looks wrong and needs stopping immediately. This page explains what that means for you and, more importantly, what it never touches.

Your funds are never locked

Two things are worth separating here, because only one of them would be a lock on your money. A game being stopped never touches the cashier. If Crash is paused, you can still withdraw, deposit and sign in, and the other games keep running. This is a deliberate product rule: stopping a game stops that game. A casino-wide maintenance window is broader, and it does pause the cashier with everything else. While one is open, the app stops preparing new transactions, withdrawals included, and tells you so. What no window can do is hold your balance. The on-chain program has no notion of maintenance: its withdrawal instruction checks that the balance is yours and that your wallet signed, and nothing else. There is no pause flag for it to consult and no operator in the path. A maintenance window can therefore delay a withdrawal for as long as it lasts, and can never prevent one. Your balance stays recorded on-chain in your name throughout, and the instruction that releases it is a public Solana instruction: the app is a convenience on top of it, not a gatekeeper standing in front of it. See Deposits & withdrawals and On-chain architecture.

Stops are scoped

A stop applies to what actually needs stopping, and nothing more:
  • A single game. If Crash is paused, Dice and Mines keep running, and so do sign-in, deposits, your profile and the rest of the app. The paused game shows its own banner in place.
  • The whole casino. Only then does a site-wide banner appear.
Tipping has its own switch, separate from every game: it can be stopped on its own, and a game being paused does not stop it. See Tipping.

When a stop is announced in advance

Maintenance usually starts with a drain rather than a hard cut: new bets close, and rounds already in progress are given time to finish. The app tells you, and automatic betting stops on its own. If a round cannot be finished within that window it is closed out for you. No stake is ever left stranded by a maintenance stop: the on-chain program bounds how long a pending bet can stay locked, so a stake always resolves, whether or not the operator comes back.

Who can stop a game

Two separate powers, on purpose:
  • Guardians can stop a game, immediately and without a multisig ceremony. That is the whole of their power: they can make something unavailable, and they can do nothing else. A guardian cannot change a house edge, a limit or a payout, and cannot move a single USDC.
  • Changing any parameter of a game is a different, slower authority, and every change is a public on-chain transaction.
This split is why an emergency stop is safe to use quickly: the worst a guardian can do is stop the casino, which is exactly what an emergency stop is for.
Restarting a stopped game is never a guardian decision on its own. Emergency stops are one-way; turning a game back on goes through the normal configuration authority.

What to do

  • A game shows a pause banner: the other games are unaffected. Your balance is untouched.
  • Your bet was closed out by a maintenance window: the stake is settled by the program and back in your balance.
  • You want to leave entirely: withdraw. A stopped game never stands in the way; a casino-wide window may ask you to come back once it closes, and cannot touch the balance in the meantime.
